Email Replies: How Long Is Too Long?

Once, it took letters months to get to their destination. A few years after that there was a revolution and suddenly, you could send a letter one week and it might arrive in one or two more! This was considered very fast and efficient, and that was plenty good enough for the people of the World.
Then came the computer, and it wasn’t long after that that mad scientists predicted that one day, you’d be able to teleport information to someone in just a few minutes using this cool thing called “dial-up Internet”.
So, I ask you, how come it can STILL take ages to hear back from someone now, when we have Broadband? It’s time, of course. Communication isn’t the issue anymore, it’s finding time to use it.
Here are a few guidelines on what I think are acceptable amount’s of time to reply to different groups of people:
1) Best friends: one hour to one month, depending on how busy your friend is. But then, the fact they are busy selling roaming rates or whatever it is they do means you can cut them some slack.
2) Good friends you don’t see often: I think 2 weeks is a decent amount of time to hear back / reply to someone’s email.
3) Romantic liaisons: if you want things to stay romantic, better get to it. 1 day to 4 days is fine.
4) Work emails: you know the drill…It’s work, so you better be quick as you can.
So…That’s a LOT of emails to send and receive. Which means that maybe you need to give someone the benefit of the doubt if it’s taking them a while to get back to you…after all, are you always perfect?
